After living happily in Croydon for 33 years, Michael and Barbara Macdonald decided the time had come to downsize and move closer to their daughter, who lives in Oxted, Surrey. However, going about finding the perfect home proved not to be an easy task and they soon found themselves having to consider renting as they couldn’t find anywhere they liked as much as their beautiful Croydon home.

Only six miles from Oxted, it seemed like the perfect location as it would take less than 15 minutes by car for the couple to visit their daughter.

From then on, it was plain sailing! As soon as they drove into the development, Barbara was immediately taken by one house in particular. With its cream weatherboarding, slate roof tiles and white picket fence, she admits it is not normally the style of house she goes for but she fell in love as soon as she set eyes on it and couldn’t wait to look inside.

And she certainly wasn’t disappointed! She got as far as the downstairs cloakroom and thought ‘I love it!’. She hadn’t even seen upstairs but she knew that this was the house. With a beautiful, stylish designer kitchen, four decent-sized bedrooms, high ceilings and perfectly-sized sitting room with large French doors leading onto the garden, all finished to an exceptionally high standard, it was the ideal low-maintenance home. Just what they had been looking for.

And so now that they are settled, has their new home lived up to expectations? ‘Absolutely!’ says Barbara. ‘The house is lovely, we really couldn’t fault it. Traditional yet modern, it has character and style, full of light, and every single room is a good size - something which we found was often lacking with other new-build homes we looked at. And most importantly, everyone at The Grange is incredibly friendly and has made us feel so welcome. It is a wonderful place to live and we are only 15 minutes away from our daughter. It’s the perfect ending to our story.”
